Please take the time to fully read the information below. It will help you in planning your surgery. We encourage you to share it with your family/significant others as they are also important members in your care and recovery process.

During your last visit, your doctor should have explained your surgery/procedure as well as any risks associated with it. It is important that you understand the procedure you are about to undergo and the associated risks before signing the “Consent for Treatment” form. If you have not yet signed the “Consent for Treatment” form, or do not understand your surgery/procedure, please contact your doctor or the hospital as soon as possible.

 

PREPARING YOUR DOCUMENTS FOR ADMISSION

The next step is to confirm your planned admission. Please bring the following documents to the Admission Office to assist you in obtaining your insurance approvals, at least 5 days prior to your scheduled surgery:

ID Card (Accepted forms of ID are: Photo ID / Civil ID – Personal / Passport)

Insurance Card

Admission request

Consent form for procedure

Tests results & Radiologic reports related to your case Alternatively, you may send them through: WhatsApp: 71 - 104000 or E-mail: admission@bmc.com.lb

If, for any reason, there is a delay in obtaining your insurance approval prior to your PAU appointment date, you have the option to settle a deposit amount of 150$ in order to proceed with the PAU tests. The deposit may be refunded depending on insurance approval.


PRE-ADMISSION UNIT (PAU)

After completing your document submission, expect to receive a phone call from the Pre-Admission Unit (PAU) RN to arrange an appointment for your PAU visit. Keep in mind that you should finalize all the preparations needed at least 24 hours before the operation.

 Certain types of surgeries, such as those under local anesthesia, do not require a PAU visit. Also, if you have had surgery recently (within the last 2 months), there is a possibility that a PAU visit may not be scheduled.

 

THE PAU VISIT

There is no need to fast before the PAU appointment. You may eat and take your medications as prescribed by your physician.

The visit may take up to two hours. Please arrange your schedule accordingly, to give sufficient time to complete all that is required.

Proceed first to the Admissions Office (ground floor) 45 minutes to 1 hour prior to your PAU appointment. Select button #1 “Pre-admission Procedure” on the ticketing machine and wait for an admissions officer to call for you to open a medical record.

Once done, proceed to PAU (located on B1)

The PAU nurses will:

-      Review your past medical and surgical history. Make sure to inform them about:   

o    Medications you are taking

(especially anti-platelets and anticoagulants, such as Aspirin or Plavix; and

Insulin)

o    Food/Medication Allergies you may have

o    Any colds or fevers you may have had in the recent past

-      Draw blood for lab work, if needed

An anesthesiologist will assess you to plan for your anesthesia. The anesthesiologist will:

- Review your past medical and surgical history

- Explain the type of anesthesia planned, and have you sign an anesthesia informed consent.

- Request blood units or other blood products, if needed, in coordination with your surgeon & the blood bank

Depending on the type of surgery, your age, and your medical history, additional exams and consultations may be requested.

The PAU team will inform you about which medications you should take on the day of the surgery (with a sip of water), and which not to, and when to stop them (e.g. anticoagulants, anti-platelets, insulin, blood pressure meds, etc.).

On the day of surgery, please arrive to the hospital on time to avoid any delays.

In case of any changes in your health condition between your PAU visit and the day of your operation, or if you are unable to undergo the operation for any reason, please inform your doctor and the hospital immediately.
